Allow Yourself Some Creativity With Your Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations are an important part of any wedding ceremony. Whether you choose to send out formal wedding invitations or just plan to make public notices and word of mouth serve as your wedding invitations, be sure you include the basic information needed for people to attend.

Names, time, date and place are all important pieces of information that should be included on your wedding invitations. If both bride and groom have nicknames, consider using those somewhere in the wording of the wedding invitations. For example, if the groom has always been known as "Buddy," people may have trouble recognizing that his name is really Clarence. Even family may have to study the wedding invitations to figure out who "Clarence" is and why they received wedding invitations to help celebrate his big event.

Especially for those public notices, be sure that both time and date are included. One of the most common mistakes made when sending wedding notices to a newspaper is the omission of the time. Potential guests who don't receive wedding invitations any other way will have to call someone to find out the time.

If the event is to be held outdoors, include information on your wedding invitations about alternative plans in case of rain. Even though you are certain that it can't possibly rain on this important day, you may find yourself leaving someone behind to direct guests the alternative location. If you have no alternative location and plan to hold the wedding outdoors regardless of weather, you may want to include that information as well so that guests who attend in the rain know to bring an umbrella or other rain gear!

Though most wedding invitations are serious, don't be afraid to let your personalities show in the wording used on the wedding invitations. Silly sayings, poems or anecdotes may serve to represent the genuinely happy nature of the couple much more clearly than a serious notation. Wedding invitations are one opportunity for a bit of creativity. While you may stick with a very traditional service order, vows and dress, remember that the wedding invitations are likely going to become a keepsake for family and friends to remember that they were invited to share in your special event.
